The scene of the Crime and the Investigation

It was Mr. Brown in the school with a marshmallow shooter.   DSC03981

There has been a serious crime in the castle, but no worries I have 45 of the cities top investigators on it!  Tonight my cub scouts will be investigating this very serious crime.  I think this would be a crazy fun party idea!  It was pretty simple to put together with a little imagination.  DSC03983

Case Files with instructions from the captain:

Tigers:

Your captain just called and there has been a very serious crime and you need to investigate! You need to start by interviewing all of the witnesses. You better make it snappy, the chief is breathing down his neck! You better be very complete we don’t want this case thrown out over a mistake!

Wolves:

Your captain just called and there has been a very serious crime and you need to investigate! You need to start by reviewing the crime scene photos. You better make it snappy, the chief is breathing down his neck! You better be very complete we don’t want this case thrown out over a mistake!

Bears:

Your captain just called and there has been a very serious crime and you need to investigate! You need to start by gathering all of the trace evidence you find. You better make it snappy, the chief is breathing down his neck! You better be very complete we don’t want this case thrown out over a mistake!

Webelos:

Pirates:

Evidence collection kit includes: evidence tags, and labels, gloves, paintbrush, tape, fingerprint dusting powder(AKA face powder)wipes, luminal (colored water) for blood testing, tweezers , tiny scissors and evidence collection bags.  I will be having them collect all the trace evidence which I am so totally planting!

I gathered a few witnesses:

You are a witness here is what you saw Be creative, Ham it up!

You didn’t see anything

But you heard a muffle whomp sound followed by a scream. It was around 7:18pm. You know it was 7:18pm because you were watching your favorite show I-Carly and it had just gone to commercial so you went to the pantry to get some popcorn for a snack and you looked at the clock on the microwave.

You saw a suspicious person around 6:45pm. They were peeking in windows and were carrying a big black duffle bag. You didn’t call the police because you were on your way to the grocery store and you were late to pick up your son from soccer practice.

You only heard a creek and heard footsteps in the hall. When you looked out you might have seen someone go by wearing a blue no wait a black sweat shirt or coat.

You only saw a strange glowing light. You are pretty sure it might have been an alien.

Crime Scene Photos:

Now if I was throwing a party I would give the kids a camera to take the crime scene photos but since I have 45 kids I couldn’t do that so I just printed some off:

Surveillance Video

I made a video with my camera.  I made it super dark so they have to really listen and watch. I stuffed extra clothes under my shirt and wore Prince Charming’s pants and gloves so they won’t be able to see it is me.  I am not the killer but I was the one making the video.  I will be playing this on the laptop projector.

The final phase will be the completion of the arrest warrant for whomever they think did the crime.   I asked some of the parents to wear the same type of clothing to throw the boys off.

Don’t you think this will be a hoot?  How fun would this be with a smaller group of boys for a party? You could really get those details going  They would talk about that one all year!

I know this was a crazy long post but I had to give you all the details of the crime!

Enjoy!

  1. I LOVE this idea and would like to do it for our boys club in a few weeks!! I have a few questions...

1- How much of the crime did you explain? How did you get the boys ready for the activity?
2- Did one of the parents commit the crime?
3- What evidence did you plant?
4- How much guidance did you give the boys?
5- What was the strange glowing light?
6- After doing your activity, what tips and tricks could you pass on?
7- How long did the investigation part last?

lol- ANY other details you have to share would be MUCH appreciated!!!!! Thanks again for this fabulous idea!!!!! :)
