Homemade Playdough

For the little princess I decided I would make homemade playdough valentines. This recipe is the best, it feels just like real playdough. You do have to cook it but it only takes a few minutes and it is definitely way cheaper than regular playdough. I made it pink this time around and made it smell like peppermint. Although it isn't edible so make sure you warn any one if you present it like this because it kinda looks like a cookie. It is non toxic so even if they take a nibble it won't hurt them, but their mom might think you make the worst cookies ever! It makes a pretty big batch, so you could easily cut the recipe in half.

3 Cups Flour
1 1/2 cups salt
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tarter (Do not skip this if you don't have it on hand it keeps it from getting moldy which allows you to keep it at room temperature for about 6 months if it lasts that long)
3 Cups water
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
Food coloring or unsweetened koolaid
Extract of choice if you want it to smell like something other than playdough if you use koolaid it will smell like what ever flavor of koolaid you use.
Combine all of the ingredients(except the extract) in a large pan and cook over medium high heat until it forms a nice stiff dough. Stir constantly to prevent it from burning. Once you have a really nice dough remove it from the heat and turn it out on to the counter to cool a bit, knead it a couple times and store in airtight containers. For the Valentine version just roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick and cut with a cookie cutter.

Have fun!
